Portland Home Place - A Community Conversation

11/29/2018

December 9th, 3-4:30 pm
CERIMON HOUSE: 5131 NE 23rd Ave.

You're invited to a Community Conversation about our changing city and Portland's future. I hope you can join us...it promises to be a lively and informative event.  Before or after the show you can drop into the Gallery and see the current exhibit: paintings of historic Portland by Betty Chilstrom.
The event is free, we'll have snacks, and raffle off prints of Betty Chilstrom's
historic Portland paintings to benefit the Community Transitional School.
(Sponsored by the Regional Arts & Culture Council, Cerimon House, and Earth Arts NW)

This is a really important conversation to have right now. The impact of all of the 4th to 20 story infill apartment buildings with no parking in them is having a very negative impact in both Northeast in southeast Portland. It is totally changing the character of our city. Not only are many beautiful old homes being destroyed, but many small businesses or been wiped out in the process. Although Some of the high-rise apartment buildings have retail on the ground floor, I’ve noticed very rarely does one of the businesses that was destroyed moving back into one of those spaces. Probably because of the increased rental costs.
Extremely timely conference, thank you for holding it.
Also, having Betty Chilstrom’s paintings there, of the Portland that once was, makes a striking contrast to the present, andca great catalyst for the discussion.
