Song-making is instinctual and might just be the oldest art form. It's certainly my favorite. I've composed and improvised songs and chants for theater, celebration, ritual and community events both individually and collaboratively. The "song-catching" process, I've discovered, is varied and depends on who is doing the "catching".
I enjoy working with groups to improvise melody and lyrics for songs and chant-songs that spontaneously "rise up" between us. Because they're created "in the moment" these songs quickly disappear unless we save them, so sessions are often recorded and I score them when possible. Check out the Artist in Community Services page if you're interested in hosting or joining a Song Catching workshop.
Since 1990 I have worked with adults and children to create songs that honor the Earth and examine our relationship with her and with each other. Below are several samples.
